Sir James Galway

Sir James Galway by Paul Cox width=

Flutist Sir James Galway has reached near epic career heights through extensive touring, performed with the world's leading orchestras and having sold more than 30 million recordings. His recording of the Prokofiev and Franck Sonatas with Martha Argerich set new standards for music making and flute playing. He has performed works commissioned for him by William Bolcom, John Corigliano and Lowell Lieberman.

The road to Carnegie Hall may be paved by practice, practice and more practice, but ask any musician - nothing is more boring, tedious and uninspiring than playing the same scale, or the same three notes, over and over again. Some musicians create a practice routine to get through the process as quickly as possible. Others, like flutist Sir James Galway, take another approach.

Practice may not actually lead to perfection, but it almost always leads to something good.

More information on Sir James Galway is available on his website: www. jamesgalway.com.

The music heard here is the Prokofiev Flute Sonata (RCA-BMG 661615).
