Lynn Harrell
Cellist Lynn Harrell made his debut in 1961 playing with the New York Philharmonic, and has performed internationally as a recitalist, chamber musician and orchestral soloist. He has also served on the faculties of the Royal Academy London, the Juilliard School, the Aspen Music Festival, and currently serves on the faculty of the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University.

Some powerful pieces of music, amazingly, are born from rare air of the composer's imagination. Some pieces are inspired by a story, and in the case of the Cello Concerto by Sir Edward Elgar, cellist Lynn Harrell says it's a love story.
Cellist Lynn Harrell says he came to the Elgar Cello Concerto late in life: "I didn't get around to learning it until well into my 30's so it doesn't really feel, still to this day, that it's something that I've known for as long as I can remember. That has its benefits, and perhaps has some of its drawbacks. But I like to underscore the benefits. And that is, I was able to study and get into the skin of Elgar."
