Jennifer Higdon

Jennifer Higdon by JD Scott width=

Composer Jennifer Higdon maintains a full schedule of commissions and enjoys more than 200 performances of her music a year. (Her work "Blue Cathedral" is one of the most performed orchestral compositions by a living composer.) The Washington Post called her "a savvy, sensitive composer with a keen ear, an innate sense of form and a generous dash of pure esprit."

There's an old saying in the music business: "Never turn down work." Pulitzer Prize winning composer Jennifer Higdon maintains a full schedule of commissions, so sometimes her busy schedule means she has to say "no."

A concerto for tap dancer and juggler? It's one of the occasions when composer Jennifer Higdon said "no" to a paying gig.

Ms. Higdon won the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for her Violin Concerto. Violinist Hilary Hahn's recording of the Pulitzer Prize winning composition was released in September 2010 (DG 778 777). More information on the busy composing life of Jennifer Higdon is available on her website: www. jenniferhigdon.com.

The music heard here is Jennifer Higdon's "Blue Cathedral" (Telarc 80596).
