Pascal Rogé

Pascal Roge by Mary Robert width=

Pascal Rogé is one of the most highly acclaimed performers of French piano music -- his name is simply synonymous with the best playing of French repertoire in the world today. For several years, Pascal has enjoyed playing recitals for four-hands/two-pianos with his partner in life and in music, Ami Rogé.

Unlike a violinist or cellist, a pianist must play on a different instrument at every concert or recital. (You can't take your personal piano on tour with you, although a few actually did long ago.) These days, pianists need to make friends quickly with a new, unfamiliar piano - a challenge that pianist Pascal Rogé welcomes.

The music heard here is Pascal Rogé playing the first section of the Children's Corner Suite by Debussy (Decca 443 021).

More information on Pascal Rogé is available on his website: www. pascalroge.com.

Some performers dread hearing their old recordings, or any of their recordings for that matter. Pascal Rogé's performances of the Saint-Saens Piano Concertos are still widely admired, and even he looks back on them fondly. He even remembers the instructions conductor Charles Dutoit gave the orchestra just before they played the first note.

Pascal Rogé captures that bit of the bubbly in the Piano Concerto No. 2 by Saint-Saens (heard here), and each of the five Saint-Saens Piano Concertos. He recorded all five of the concertos with conductor Charles Dutoit in 1995 (Decca 443 865). The recording information is available at www.arkivmusic.com.
